Complications are rare, and increase the longer circumcision is postponed
Research covering approximately 1.4 million circumcised boys and men in the United States, more than ninety percent of them as newborns. Complications are uncommon when the circumcision takes place during the first year of life. If the procedure is postponed, the risk is ten to twenty times higher.

Postponed circumcisions could often have been done earlier
Analysis of insurance data covering 156,247 circumcisions in boys aged 0 to 18, of which 93.6 percent were newborns. A large share of the procedures carried out after infancy could have been done earlier, at lower cost and with less strain on the child.

Device-assisted circumcision means fewer complications and a better result
Research among 1,200 patients aged 5 to 95 who were circumcised using a device for minimally invasive circumcision. The technique proved simple to perform and caused few complications, without any need for antibiotics. Patients reported less pain than with the classic method.

No needles, a single visit, no follow-up appointment
Research across three clinics among 110 men, circumcised with a device and anaesthetised through the skin instead of by injection. No one needed an injection after all, blood loss averaged one millilitre and the procedure took about nine minutes. After four weeks, over ninety percent had healed completely. Seven men, 6.3 percent, had a complication: five post-operative bleeds that required suturing and two infections.
