Adult circumcision

The circumcision is always carried out under local anaesthetic; if you wish, it can also be done under light sleep sedation (at extra cost). During the procedure the foreskin is shortened and the glans becomes partially or fully exposed.

How long the procedure takes depends on the method: with the clamp it is usually done within 5 to 10 minutes, with the classic method it takes 15 to 30 minutes. Allow about 30 to 60 minutes for the whole visit, including the intake consultation. After one to two hours the anaesthetic has worn off and sensation returns.

The procedure can be carried out with two methods: with our patented Genco clamp, or with the classic method, in which stitches and tissue glue are used. Sedation techniques can be applied with both methods. The clamp method works perfectly well for adults too.

Because the circumcision takes place under local anaesthetic, you can eat and drink as normal beforehand. If you choose sleep sedation, you may only have clear fluids in the two hours before.

• Shave off your pubic hair one or two days before the day of treatment.
• Take a fresh shower before you come.
• Take 2 x 500 mg paracetamol an hour before the treatment.
• Bring clean, close-fitting underpants for after the circumcision.
• Bring a valid proof of identity and your insurance card.

For the first three days you look after the wound yourself; you will receive instructions for this at the clinic. After the treatment, put on your clean underpants and let the penis point upwards, towards the navel. This reduces the swelling.

After that, bathe daily in lukewarm water, without soap. In the first few days you can take painkillers or use an ointment, for example one with lidocaine.

In the first weeks the penis can be somewhat swollen and have a red-blue colour. That is completely normal and part of the healing process. Urinating can also be painful in the first weeks, and the glans can be somewhat oversensitive during the first weeks.

With the classic method, the tissue glue or stitch comes away by itself within one to two weeks. Put nothing on the wound and make sure it gets plenty of air, three to four times a day.

• Heavy physical exertion: wait at least a week after the treatment.
• Swimming and heavy training: wait 3 to 4 weeks.
• Masturbation and sex: possible again after 4 to 6 weeks. Be careful the first time.

Bear in mind that the final result needs time. That can take weeks to months.

From 12 years the adult rate of € 490,- applies. With a medical indication and a referral, the rate is € 650,-.

Sleep sedation costs € 250,- extra. For a procedure without a medical therapeutic purpose, 21% VAT is due; you receive a declaration in advance, on the basis of which an exemption may apply.
