Child circumcision
For children we carry out the circumcision without pain and as much as possible without fear, under local anaesthetic and, if desired, with a calming light sedative.

Pain-free and without fear
The circumcision is carried out under local anaesthetic. Beforehand we apply an anaesthetic cream, so that the anaesthetic injection is barely noticeable. We only start once nothing is felt any more.
Is your child older than about four years? Then prepare him calmly. Tell him that he will get a small injection and that the little bit of skin will be removed, without him feeling any pain.
The light sedative: what you can expect
From about six months your child can be given a light sedative: midazolam via a nasal spray. It has a calming effect and takes the edge off fear, tension and anger. Children daydream and are easier to distract with a video or a game.
It does not make your child lose consciousness and it does not send him to sleep. It is a short-acting sedative that has worn off after about twenty to thirty minutes. Afterwards your son often remembers little or nothing of the procedure.
Children temporarily lose their coordination and have little strength to walk. That is why, after it has been given, they must not sit or walk unsupervised for two hours.
Bring something you can distract your son with, such as a phone with videos or games. At some locations we also offer a tablet.
Which method?
Together with you we choose the method that fits best. For younger children we often recommend the clamp method with the Genco Clamp; for older children the classic method with tissue glue is a good alternative.
The difference lies mainly in the duration and the aftercare. The clamp method is usually finished within five to ten minutes, the classic method takes fifteen to thirty minutes. With both methods a follow-up check is not needed.
The first days at home
Keep an eye on your child’s hands during the first few hours. While the anaesthetic is working he feels nothing and may touch the wound or the clamp without noticing. Once the feeling returns, touching hurts and your child will keep away from it by himself.
With the clamp method, from the second day you rinse at least twice a day with a shower head or in a warm bath, for at least ten minutes. You remove the clamp yourself at home, four days after the treatment.
With the classic method, from 24 hours after the circumcision you shower daily for five minutes. Put nothing on the wound, not even ointment. The tissue glue or stitch comes away by itself within one to two weeks.
Children who already walk can be troubled more by swelling. Fairly snug underpants that keep the penis pointing upwards help against this.
Costs
- Children aged 1 to 5 years: € 320,-
- Children aged 5 to 12 years: € 380,-
The light sedative with midazolam is included in the price. Sleep sedation costs € 250,- extra. With a medical indication and a referral, different rates apply.
Frequently asked questions about a circumcision for a child

It is a light sedative: your child stays conscious and does not fall asleep. It takes the edge off fear and tension, so that your child daydreams and is easier to distract.
